An Autoimmune disorder that caused Hyperthyroidism

An Autoimmune disorder that caused Hyperthyroidism

The patient, an unmarried 25-year-old female, was suffering from Pulmonary tuberculosis (under treatment). She had observed, swelling all over her body with puffiness of face in the morning and swelling of both lower limbs,  experiencing symptoms like chest pain, palpitations and mild swelling in the neck. She was advised by her relative to visit the UPTM center for treatment.  In her visit to Chunar CHC Telemedicine center, the doctor advised her for a thyroid test. The result indicated hyperthyroidism. Upon consultation with the General Medicine Practitioner and Endocrinology specialist, she was diagnosed with Grave’s disease, an autoimmune disorder that causes hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid, with exophthalmos. With this disease, the immune system attacks the thyroid and causes it to make more thyroid hormone than your body needs. The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the front of your neck. Hyperthyroidism can accelerate your body’s metabolism, causing unintentional weight loss and a rapid or irregular heartbeat.

The healthcare team formulated a plan to be followed by her. Subsequently, medication helped her stabilise the condition and relieve her from presenting symptoms. “I have no words to express my satisfaction with the treatment. The treatment helped her to overcome the symptoms. We consider ourselves lucky to have UPTM center close to our house to consult best specialist doctors for the treatment” said the patient on the entire experience.
