The Millennial resolution- ‘Beyond Work, Beyond World’

The Millennial resolution- ‘Beyond Work, Beyond World’

Hey there, ‘Hi’.. a simple yet the most common way of making someone your presence felt, bringing a smile to their face. A simple ‘Hi’ can uplift someone’s not so good day, but the question is when was the last time you said that ‘Hi’ to yourself. When was the last time you took a pause and thought that it’s okay to not do the routine once in a while and it is okay to not do what has to be done and it is okay to do what the heart wants to be done? Trust me, it is okay.

Your 13-year old daughter wants you to sit with her for her assembly recitals and you cancel your yoga session in a blink. You saved money to buy the new insulin pen that is less painful and more convenient to use but then your brother’s marriage dates got fixed and you had to buy him that honeymoon ticket. The bathroom doors needed an urgent repair so you thought that the health insurance premium can wait. The spa appointment must be postponed since an important meeting with the Director came up and, etc, etc, etc.

Rings any bells for you. Oh yes, these are just some little scenarios that were picked up from our lives. The life that we have worked so hard for. Countless sleepless nights, worries, frowns, missing out on family trips, giving up on our favorite movies, not buying that watch for one more time thinking that maybe next time… but wait… how do you even know there is a next time??

The world is all surrounded by so many heartbreaking incidents, we read them every day, we hear about them at office pantries or radios or on Instagram and Facebook, but what do we do? What does it change?

This Valentine, this day, this moment…  let’s change, let’s pause at that mirror and give that smile that hasn’t been there for 24 hours. I mean 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86400 seconds of your life without a smile, how sad is it. So this Valentine’s let’s wake up and say good morning to ourselves. Why not prepare that hearty breakfast of Aloo parathas or Maple syrup Pancakes. I mean yeah, the calories might take a little hit but then why not go to that badminton game you wanted to go with your friend for 15 days. There is this amazing fish spa place at the corner of your office building, let’s go give our feet that small treat. 2.5 hours of metro hustle every day, sure your feet deserve that much at least 1 day

In this everyday hustle of going out and making a change in someone else’s life, we go on changing everything that defines us. There are a pair of old blue faded jeans and a ruffled white t-shirt that your wife doesn’t approve anymore. Your favorite bike that you can’t ride to the corporate meetings, doesn’t leave a good impression. Pancakes are a big no, love handles don’t go with your skinny black dress at the club party. Yeah, so a lot changed, but for whom? I mean the person we spend the maximum time within this world is ourselves, so how is it not important that it is equally worthy and satiating to us.

‘We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.” —Michelle Obama, former First Lady

So, this time, ask yourself out on a date. Buy that gift that you wanted since forever. The people who love you will love it when you are happy and satiated, and you can only give something to someone when you are full of it.

Make yourself full of love, for yourself, for this beautiful life that you are living, love the sunrises and the sunsets too, for there will not be any, once you are gone

So, wake up and tell yourself, Oh I am awesome, and I will be okay even when on the days I am not so awesome. I will deal with it, all of it, the Joy, the love, the hatreds, and the rejection. everything.

“If you’re searching for that one person that will change your life, look in the mirror”

So here I am sharing some “Beyond Work” things to do. Time to set some goals into actions:

  1. Enroll for a Yoga session at least 3 times in a week
  2. Grow some DIY small flowers and vegetables in your balcony or compound. It is known to be one of the most productive hobbies.
  3. A bicycle is the new cool- Get one this year and take yourself back to the memory lane
  4. Replace that fried snack with some good quinoa seeds and healthy nuts
  5. Record your feelings on a voice recorder whenever you are upset or happy. They will be time stamps for you.
  6. Go get that head massage that you have wanted for so long. It will help you relieve stress
  7. Invest 2 percent of your salary on your health- Get that BP monitor, new insulin pen, those new silicon shoes or that mind fit session or those organic food supplements.
  8. Play your favorite song and just dance to it. Give yourself away to that melody, let yourself free.
  9. Go say that one thing you have wanted to say to that person since a long time. Holding grudges rots your mind.

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about.
Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.
The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
